In the event of a government shutdown, the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) will not be affected. In September 2016, Congress provided full-year funding to ABMC for FY 2017 (October 1, 2016 through September 30, 2017.). All ABMC sites will remain open and continue to operate as normal.
ABMC is funded through the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies appropriations subcommittees of the House and Senate.
The American Battle Monuments Commission operates and maintains 26 cemeteries and 31 federal memorials, monuments and commemorative plaques in 17 countries throughout the world, including the United States.
Since March 4, 1923, the ABMC’s sacred mission remains to honor the service, achievements, and sacrifice of more than 200,000 U.S. service members buried and memorialized at our sites.
