The Meuse-Argonne Offensive of World War I is one of America’s most significant battles in terms of both men and equipment engaged, and in the number of dead and wounded. During this 47 day offensive, more than 1.2 million personnel were involved, and more than 26,000 men lost their lives. The strength and commitment to this offensive solidified America’s  role on the world stage and helped bring an end to the war.

As the largest American World War I cemetery overseas, more than 14,000 Americans now rest eternally at Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery,  which is located on part of the battlefield where the intense fighting occurred.. To tell this story, the American Battle Monuments Commission has released the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery smartphone app. Free to download in the Apple iTunes Store and the Android Google Play Store, this official U.S. government app serves as your personal tour guide of the cemetery.

This app allows you to:

• Plan your visit to include driving directions, operating hours, and parking information
• Learn the stories of the Americans buried there, and find their burial locations
• Explore the cemetery grounds, and learn about the design and layout
• Take a cemetery tour in as little as one hour, or spend the entire day exploring the site.
• Understand the U.S. military’s role in World War I
• See a map of the cemetery, including key points of interest

You can use the app at the cemetery, or an ocean away. You don’t have to be in France to learn about this World War I site, where 14,246 Americans are buried and 954 Americans are memorialized on the Walls of the Missing.  

This is one of four mobile apps thus far developed by ABMC. Apps featuring Cambridge American Cemetery, Normandy American Cemetery and Pointe du Hoc are also available for download.
